Scam or Not?

This email caught my eye this morning. I wonder if it's a scam. What do you think? (personal info redacted)

Hello,

I saw your add and wanted to get in contact with you as soon as I could.

I have a bit of a strange situation so let me explained some first. My name is xxxxxxx I am a Corpsman(Medic) in the United

states Navy Resv. xxxxx Unit. Currently I am stationed in Kuwait but I will return home in a couple months. Just before I left my home in xxxxxx, OR for this deployment I sold my house, with the anticipation that I would be relocating to the Portland area when I returned home. I have a very secure job in the civilian sector as a medical assistant for an ear, nose, and throat specialist.

Now is the time to secure an apartment so that I will have a home to come home to.

My sister has my general power of attorney and is able to sign all documents needed to rent an apartment. I am able to pay for all move in fees, deposits, and 4 months of rent up front.

You can contact my sister at 503-539-xxxx you can email me and or you can call me at 011-965-509-xxxx

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank You

xxxxxxxxxx x xxxxxxx

Seems possible. . . I'd call the sister and see if you get any vibes.

i'd say it's pretty much for sure a scam. it sounds a lot like e-mails i once got when i posted on craigslist looking for a room, except those were all about a place for rent where they'd send you the keys and you had to send the rent money to a foreign address. yeah, right.

Probably is a scam in some way. Way too much information given to you off the bat, and no real way to check the story (US Army, strange sister-relation...) just sounds weird.

I am going to be relocating to the Portland, PDX?, area in about a year, and am happy that I happened upon your blog. I know some people there but hope that I might be able to correspond with you, as you seem to be very knowledgable about the rental prop industry, which is something I will need to navigate through since I will need to be living somewhere once I get there. :) (The year lag time is due to the fact that it will take a year to pay off my fin obligations, fyi for no reason really.)
